Granada

Two days in Granada...better amount of time for sure. We arrived in the afternoon and had some free time to wander and get dinner before we had to be back at 10:00 for a flamenco show. We went to the city center and found a nice park, a plaza with a market, and an AMAZING bar/restaurant.

The restaurant was called Um Kalsum (like the singer) and I got a pastela there. I had been craving one since Morocco so I was very happy. Courtney and Camilia got this platter of, like, every tapa for 12 euros. Great deal. Lots of delicious food.

Afterwords we went on a excursion-type thing with people from the hotel to go for a short walk through Albaicin, the old Arab neighborhood and to a flamenco bar for a show. We got pictures of the Alhambra at night which were very pretty as well. The dancing was AMAZING! Two of the girls danced with such passion. It was beautiful to watch. The guys were just ridiculous. Amador says that he prefers the flamenco in Granada over that in Sevilla because it is more pure. I understand this now. They always look like they want to cry when they dance they emote so much energy and feeling. Great experience.

The next day we woke up to go to the Alhambra and Generalife. Beautiful gardens. Cool place, but I guess I was a little underwhelmed after everyone tells you how amazing it is. It was cool, don't get me wrong, but I don't need to go back to Granada to visit the Alhambra. Our guide was really good though...and handsome. haha.

In the afternoon we met up with Amador and went out for some Andalucian cuisine. I got gazpacho and paella. Both delicious. We then took a little walk through the city. We went along this one road that follows a river and is really small and lined with shops selling Arab goods. Fun stuff.

Later we had some time to ourselves and we went to the market area to do some shopping. I got a ring and some bangles and some gifts. We got some ice cream as well: chocolate negro and ferrero roche...amazing!

Met up with Amador at 9:00 to go find a bar to watch Barcelona play Real Madrid. Free tapas with drinks was dinner. yum. As I have previously mentioned. BARCA MADE FOOLS OF RM!!!!!!!!!!!! It was awesome. Also learned that Vino con gaseoso is called tinto verano. good to know seeing I LOVE to drink it.

Next day we had free to do as we pleased. We all broke off and I walked around through some places I hadn't seen and some places I had. Bought candied almonds from the market which were DELICIOUS and a little empanada of bacon and dates. Very tasty and I thought of my mom when she made dates with bacon once. So delicious. Getting a little homesick. Camilia and I met up to have lunch at an Arab restaurant...rice with vegetables in a sauce. The drive home was 5 hours and I was ready to be back. Traveling to 7 cities in a week and a half is very tiring.

Half way done with the semester now. Lots of work this week with midterms and having to get work turned in. ay ay ay.
